misc: standard disclaimers apply. was intended to fill someone's request on the epic kink meme but it exceeded 500 words. my apologies to whomever requested that. very vague allusions to incest, but squint your left eye, and tilt your head a little to the side, and you'll see it.

She wore her hair long for as long as he could remember. Sometimes she braided it, or ponytailed it, or let some strands hang loose over her face as was the trend nowadays. Fringes, that's what they were called. But she left the rest of her hair untouched, and let it grow freely over the years, keeping it past shoulder level at the very least. He didn't think she would ever cut it; it seemed like such a waste of time and effort and hair. Besides, she looked good with long hair. He had begun to imagine it flowing past her hips, all that brown hair like silk ropes from their mother's side of the family. She'd look like her in a few years' time. People were already saying she did. She her mother's mouth, they said, her mother's temperament.

When she was little she spent some summers making wreathes of flowers to wear on her head. She muddied her sundress in the backyard, caking her boots with filth. And when she was finished with her wreathe she would hold it against the sun and laugh a little in childish glee, and when she'd put it on her head, she'd say, "Niichan. Look! Look! I'm a princess." And Ryohei would look, and he would laugh too, and wipe the grime off her cheek with the back of his hand. He was six years old. She was the prettiest girl he had ever seen.

She quickly moved on to charm bracelets. She was gifted. Everyone said so. Their father said so. But she was nothing special when everyone else was already special and unique themselves. But she was Ryohei's little sister, so he thought she was.

She loved arts and craft, making something out of nothing, sewing back ripped seams. She was good with her hands. And sometimes when Ryohei was bored or when he'd finished playing outside, he'd sit in her room and watch her. She moved her hands and shapes formed out of thin air. When she was finished, she crawled over to him and tied a ribbon around his wrist. "This is for niichan. To keep trouble away!" She shook his wrist and the charms jangled together like gypsy coins. Ryohei thanked her and laughed and patted her on the head. Strands of hair tumbled over her face. "I think I should get a haircut, niichan." she said, and made a face like a blowfish so that her hair tumbled some more, over her eyelids and nose. Ryohei tucked it out of her eyes, behind her ears. She scooted closer and put her head on his shoulder. Then she shut her eyes and slept.

She was his little sister and she was the best girl in the world as far as he was concerned. She cried for a week after he'd gotten that scar over his left eyebrow, honoring a promise he's made with his father. She was his little sister, his responsibility and charge, the only girl he would love besides his mother. He would die first before anyone should lay a finger on her. That's what his father had taught him. Dog eat dog world, you protect what you cherish most. And family always comes first.

Then summer came, and she turned thirteen and cut her hair. It fell over her shoulders, just barely hiding the top of her spine. She stopped making wreathes. She stopped making beaded bracelets. They'd driven to the beach with their parents, their skins sleek and luminous with sunscreen, and she sat in the backseat with a basket of sandwiches and a jugful of tea. Knees pulled up to her chest and with her toes curled on the leather seat. She pulled the window all the way down and her hair knotted with salt and sea breeze. Ryohei pulled his window down too and let the wind lap his face.

At the beach, they threw a picnic blanket near the shore and unpacked their sandwiches. Ryohei walked towards the water until he stood chest-deep in it. The sun was high, the waves kept trying to push him back. She called after him on the shore, in a red bathing suit and a straw hat. She looked nervous. She cupped her hands over her mouth. "Niichan!" she yelled. "Niichan, that part of the water's dangerous!"

"What?" he yelled back. "What do you mean? No, it's not dangerous! It feels great. Come on in Kyoko! The water's great! What are you still standing there for?"

"Niichan," she said. "Niichan, I'm scared."

"Scared of what? You won't drown. I'll be here. You know I will." He smiled and waved his arms in the air in large arcs. "Come on in! Trust me! The water's great Kyoko!" The waves pushed him forward again and he made a show of splashing water around and pouring it over his face. The water stung his eyes. She put her hat down on the ground. He waited.

He waited; she stood on the shore testing the water temperature with her toes. He waited, and she bit her lip and crouched on the ground uncertainly and dug her fingers into the wet sand, tracing unintelligble words. He waited and then finally she looked up at him smiling but it was a small smile which meant if it were a game it still wasn't time to stop waiting. Then she stepped out of her slippers, and picked up her straw hat. She walked forward.

My favourite is in canon where he's always claiming he's going to wrestling matches. :P He tries so hard to protect her. Do you think you'll write more of the two of them? It would be interesting to see the dynamics of their relationship more, even to the point of incest. :D

LOL. I'm afraid to sully the Sasagawa siblings but I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought about writing them "together" before. It seems plausible, maybe. OMG YOU PLANTED THE SEED NOW I WANT TO WRITE SASAGAWA-CEST D:
